Visual Braille Photography
Images by Boyd Miller & Maderia Eoff
Boyd & Maderia are a team of photographers hailing from the Great Northwest. They live in the Beacon Hill area of Seattle, WA.
They use a number of photographic technics & gadgets to produce the images you see on these pages. Both have been shooting pictures since early childhood and you have to fight to take a camera out of their adult hands. Kind of addiction meets expression.
Visual Braille is a play on words. It happened to get tossed out in conversation one night with some friends of the photographers. It was Boyd’s funny way of describing their photos. Then they realized the name was not just humorous or a contradiction. It was a good definition of their body of work. Digital Images (which all these photos are - no matter how they started) are simply a series of digital information. Zeros and Ones as it were. A positive or a negative. Like braille dots on paper. Individually, they mean nothing. Put them together and then you have meaning. At least, we hope. Besides, with things like the TTV (click here to learn more) some people get it and some don’t. If you understand how to read braille, a world is opened to you that you could not see before. They like to think the same of their work. It isn’t for everyone. It kind of grows on you. It keep evolving and changing (growing???).
Most of their photos are not “conventional”. The two feed off of each others creativity and ideas. Continually experimenting and modifying what they do in an attempt to visually express what they feel as much as document what they see. They break a lot of rules in the process - dust, lint, scratches and blur all mixing together to create a special feel.
Travel is the dream. Images are what drive the dream. Explore, meet and document the world around them. Until travel can happen all the time, they will continue to explore the Northwest, document their friends & families lives and their own adventures/vacations.
They invite you in to a slice of their lives. They would love to hear comments. You can find their email info on their personal pages (just click on their names at the top of the page). Feel free to contact them with any photographic adventures, ideas or dreams you may have.
Welcome to the world through our lenses
Our most recent true vacation was to Kauai. These are some shots from around the island.
